Welcome to Focus Check Photography

Welcome to Focus Check Photography! I'm a self-taught photographer with a passion for capturing the beauty of family-friendly adventures and the breathtaking landscapes of Canada's National Parks. Through this blog, I aim to share tips, stories, and inspiration to help you explore the great outdoors while improving my craft.

My Journey Into Photography

My love for photography began in childhood, inspired by my father, who always carried a camera. One of my most vivid memories is our Grade 7 school trip to Quebec. My dad, who chaperoned, brought his tiny Pentax SLR, fondly nicknamed the “spy camera.” I spent the week snapping dark, blurry photos in museums with little idea of how to use it—but I loved every moment.

These early experiences sparked a fascination with photography that followed me into adulthood.

Nature, Family, and Finding My Passion

For years, I casually captured memories of important events, but my hobby took on new meaning when I became a parent. Photography became an outlet for creativity and connection as I sought to balance the chaos of family life. As my kids grew, so did my adventures, and I developed an immense love for nature and the beauty it offers.

Our National Parks Challenge

After a particularly amazing camping trip, my husband and I decided to set a life goal: visit every National Park in Canada. Inspired by our grandparents, we began collecting spoons as mementos of each visit—a fun challenge in itself! This blog is a space to document our journey, share tips for visiting Canada’s National Parks, and inspire others to get outside and explore.
